Understanding the Vegan Keto Diet

The vegan ketogenic diet is a high fat and low carb diet that offers many health benefits and can help you lose a large amount of weight. The traditional ketogenic diet is high in animal fat, but there are many vegan sources of fat that work just as well and offer more health benefits. If you are serious about losing weight, you might want to give the keto diet a try.

When you start this diet, your body is going to rapidly burn fat which is going to make you lose weight quickly. The aim of this diet is to get your body into a state of ketosis, which is when your body burns its fat reserves for fuel. You achieve the state of ketosis by eating few carbs and lots of fats.

Not only do you burn lots of fat so you lose weight while you are on this diet, you also have more energy and you don’t feel so hungry. There are other benefits of going keto as well. Many studies show that this diet can reverse type 2 diabetes because it lowers blood sugar levels.

A diet like this can also help you to think more clearly. Your mental focus is going to improve and you will also be able to concentrate better. Your brain functions better when you are on a keto diet. Another thing that happens to your body is that your endurance is better because your body is burning more energy.

When you start this diet, you are going to need to avoid carbohydrates as much as possible. Your goal should be to keep your carbohydrate consumption under 50 grams a day. You will need to cut out rice, potatoes, bread and pasta. You don’t need much protein either, so aim for 20 percent of your diet to come from protein sources. The bulk of your calories, about 70 percent, are going to come from fat.

There are plenty of healthy sources of vegan fats that you can eat, including avocado oil, olive oil, coconut oil, and flaxseed oil. Black and green olives, coconut cream, and avocado are all great sources of vegan fats as well.

Your vegan protein intake can come from tofu, almonds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds or walnuts, just to name a few. You can think of your ketogenic diet like a pie, where you get 70 percent of your calories from fats, 20 percent from protein and 10 percent from carbs. Your goal is going to eat as much fat as possible so your body enters the ketogenic state.

The vegan ketogenic diet is delicious and you can eat all the low carb fruits and vegetables you want along with your fats. Since the fats are so filling, you don’t really feel deprived when you are on this diet. A keto diet helps you burn all the fat that your body has been holding onto.
