How To Get Into Ketosis For Easy Weight Loss

Most people these days who have researched how to lose weight have had to hear about the ketogenic diet and how a process called ketosis uses the body’s stored fat for energy. Although not everyone can use this diet, the many people who have tried it lost weight and have even alleviated the symptoms of diseases they were experiencing.

Learn more about this effective weight loss strategy and see how to get into ketosis so you can start losing weight.

How to Get into Ketosis

The body will typically use carbohydrates for energy because it’s the easiest. When the body does not have an ample supply of carbs to burn for energy, it has to start using stored fat for energy use. This puts the body in a state of ketosis. This happens naturally in healthy people that are not eating a ton of processed foods and sugars.

Another way to keep your body in ketosis is to practice intermittent fasting. That sounds tough but really, all intermittent fasting is is eating in a particular time frame in a day. For instance, you could choose to fast for 18 hours a day and eat in a six hour window. You could eat between the hours of 1 P.M. and 7 P.M. or whatever hours work for your life.

The carbs that you consume to while in ketosis depend on your weight, your activity level and your metabolism rate. Many people doing keto eat approximately 20 grams of carbs per day, especially the first two weeks. There are some plans that will allow 50 grams of carbs per day.

Once your body becomes fat adaptive and stays in ketosis, you can slowly add more carbs into your diet. It’s extremely important though to be very careful the first few weeks. You will have to monitor your ketones so you can track whether or not you are in ketosis and the carbs you can consume for your own body and needs.

The Ketogenic Diet

This diet restricts the consumption of carbohydrates but there are still many other foods that can be eaten. Some of these foods include meats, seafood, cheeses and many vegetables. There are certain vegetables such as potatoes and carrots that you should stay away from because of the high amounts of carbs, starches and sugars.

There are a few fruits that you can eat, such as strawberries, blackberries and raspberries that are not high in sugar. Most fruits will be forbidden because of the high amounts of fructose which will throw your body out of ketosis. You will need to stay away from most legumes as well because of the high starch content.

Safety of Ketosis

There are certain diseases that the doctor will actually prescribe this diet for. It was discovered decades ago that a low-carbohydrate diet reduces epileptic seizures in patients with epilepsy. People who are suffering from diabetes can use this diet to better manage this disease. It’s important for people to work with their physician when choosing to adopt a keto diet.

For the most part, this diet is extremely safe and effective. It’s common to feel lethargic during the first couple days of the diet but as your body adjusts, this will dissipate. This is sometimes called the keto flu as your body is adjusting to the lack of calories and clearing out the toxins in your body.

If you have been struggling to lose weight, ketosis for weight loss has proven to be effective. Before undertaking any new diet, be sure to consult with your doctor first. After being on this diet for a few weeks and experiencing the benefits, you may be like millions of others who easily adapt to the keto lifestyle.
